We have a list of special ideas for the end of the school year that will help your kids remember the fight with homework, studying after dinner, and waiting on results from their test was all worth it.

THE BEST LAST DAY OF SCHOOL TRADITIONS

If you think about it, the last day of school is a transition for many kids. The child’s teacher changes; they won’t get to see all of their friends over the summer, and cleaning out a desk and taking home your school supplies creates anxiety in some children.

With that said, providing children with a sense of security and creating family memories can help fight against anxiety. It also gives kids an extra fun time to remember. We all know that they grow fast.

1. Count down to the last day for summer break using a DIY countdown calendar or paper chains.
2. Cook their favorite breakfast or dinner.
3. Create photo ops for the first day and the last day in the same spot. This could be at home, in front of the school, or at the park.
4. My friend recreated the same photo from their child’s first day of school and had their child wear the same outfit to show how much they’ve changed over the school year.
5. Pack your child’s lunch and leave a special note or surprise inside.
6. Create a special school shirt using a plain t-shirt and craft fabric markers to color. For example, my daughter made her and her BFF a matching shirt for a field day on the last day of school.
7. Send your child to school with a Teacher’s appreciation gift.
8. Host a summer party and let your child invite kid’s from their class or friends in the neighborhood to meet.
9. Post a DIY-made sign for the last day of school sign in your front yard.
10. Create a summer bucket list with your child or children. Put items on it that you wish to do over break.
11. Give your child a fun gift when they get off the school bus.
12. Organize a family book club over the summer.
13. Go on a walk or discover a new biking trail.
14. Watch the sunset go down at the beach or in the backyard and eat smores.
15. Watch a movie about the last day of school together. This could include the Goofy movie or Can’t Hardly Wait.
